Here are the best afternoon tea spots in Alberta. From buttery scones and finger sandwiches to little cakes and petite fours, we love tea service in an elegant atmosphere. Alberta’s offerings will surprise and delight and with Mother’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to dig out your bow tie or dust off your fascinator and make reservations now.
Southern Alberta
1. The Noble Teahouse is nestled in a Victorian house built in 1909 in High River. They offer women in recovery a place to work, a place to belong, and an opportunity to learn new skills while contributing to their community. Afternoon tea here is available every week by reservation from Thursday to Sunday. It features sweet and savoury treats and the profits directly support local rehabilitation programs.
2. The Jasmine Room in Lethbridge has hosted Afternoon High Tea since 2001. The atmosphere is reminiscent of tea at Grandma’s house. They also offer a Princess Tea for the little ones with a smaller appetite.
3. Tea time at the Prince of Wales Hotel Waterton offers the royal treatment and breathtaking views. It’s available every day of the week during the hotel’s operating season, May to October.
Calgary
4. Orchard Restaurant in the Calgary’s Beltline District, offers a newly minted Sunday afternoon tea service. One of the city’s prettiest restaurants, they offer scones, sandwiches, and sweets alongside a wide selection of whole leaf teas from our friends at The Naked Leaf in Kensington.
5. Calgary’s historic Deane House offers tea service on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The new spring tea menu is now on their website. It looks so good that we’ve already booked our spot.
6. The 6 Lounge and Dessert Bar in Calgary offers traditional English tea with an Asian twist. Menu items like Matcha scones and Japanese milk bread sandwiches give this service an exciting spin. The hot menu item is a slice of Lady M Mille Crepe cake with your tea.
7. Calgary’s Bow Valley Ranche offers weekend tea service, but we are really looking forward to the Hats and High Tea event at the end of April. Wear your loveliest fascinator, and you could be crowned the winner of the Best Bonnet Contest.
8. Elevate your Mother’s Day celebration with Oxbow Restaurant’s High Tea on May 11 and 12 (or any weekend thereafter) at the Hotel Arts Kensington. The culinary team curates an experience featuring high tea classics and some Oxbow originals. Relaxation is assured with afternoon tea on their patio facing the Bow River. Reservations are open now.
Edmonton
9. Beautiful Brew and Bloom in Edmonton is bringing back their Mother’s Day High Tea. Spoil Mom at the most Instagram-able cafe in the capital city. Reservations are now open for their May 11 and 12.
10. Edmonton’s Cafe Bel Air offers afternoon tea for just $25 per person. It is available from Wednesday to Sunday every week. The all-vegetarian menu landed this place a spot on the list of top high teas in Edmonton.
11. The Art of Cake in Edmonton hosts the Art of High Tea every Sunday. This Edmonton eatery also offers takeaway high tea for people of differing mobility abilities. Everyone deserves access to the Art of Cake’s clotted cream and scones.
Alberta’s Fairmont Hotels’ famous tea service
12. 13. 14. and 15. No list is complete without mentioning the Afternoon Teas at Alberta’s Fairmont hotels. In the mountains, Fairmont Banff Springs and Chateau Lake Louise offer Afternoon Tea service every day of the week with legendary views. In Calgary, the Hawthorn Room at the Fairmont Palliser has weekend tea service, as does the Harvest Room in Edmonton’s Hotel MacDonald. All locations offer the option to pay extra to upgrade your tea with the addition of bubbly. Yes, please.
