Best Pumpkin Patches in Alberta

a pile of fruit

Here’s our list of the best pumpkin patches in Alberta, working North to South. Before you know it, everything will be pumpkin-spiced—sorry, not sorry.

1. The Fall-o-ween Festival starts September 21st at Prairie Gardens just north of Edmonton.  Visit their half-acre pumpkin patch to pick your own.

2. Smoky Lake, 90 minutes north east of Edmonton, is regarded as the pumpkin capital of Alberta. This year, October 4-6, is the town’s Big Pumpkin Fair. In addition to finding your favourite orange gourd, you can enjoy the Pumpkin Drop and the Great Pumpkin Weigh-In.

3. From September until the first frost, you can also visit Somerset Farms just a little west of Edmonton in Parkland County to pick your own pumpkin from their Pumpkin Patch. This year, they have twelve different varieties, ranging in colour and size.

4. Located mid-way between Calgary and Edmonton, the Jungle Farm is packed with pumpkins. Their patch is big, orange, and photogenic (as long as you get there  before the first frost. Hint, hint – go NOW!)

5. Johnson Fresh Farms in Barnwell, Alberta (south of Calgary and west of Taber), hosts annual U-pick pumpkin events.  Friday and Saturday nights starting September 20th, take your family to pic a sweet Jack-o-lantern pumpkin.

Don’t see your favourite pumpkin patch listed? Let us know and we’ll be happy to add it. Looking for a warm and cozy, non-pumpkin-spiced, thing to do?
