Top 5 Vegetarian Restaurants in Edmonton

Zee Zaidi, owner of Remedy Cafe with a team member

Last week we brought you our favourite vegetarian restaurants in Calgary.  Now, it’s Edmonton’s turn.  And here’s the fun part, some of these places for great vegetarian would be the last place you’d expect to look! Another great thing is they’re very affordable. So take care of yourselves this January and enjoy these fine restaurants in Edmonton.

#1 – It might seem odd but one of our favourite places to eat vegetarian in Edmonton is a restaurant called MEAT  (see photos above). That’s because one of the owners is a vegetarian and she knows what it is like to go out to eat (and let’s face it, in a whole province known for meat) and not be able to find something delicious besides meat. We love their Beet Burger and whatever the NOT MEAT sandwich special of the day is. And, all the sides. Bring us all the sides!

#2 –  We love to be in Edmonton on a Tuesday night. That’s the $15 all you can eat Vegan Buffet night at Narayanni’s. The Naidoo family cook all the food in house and it celebrates their East African Indian heritage.

#3 & #4 – Cafe Mosaics and The Moth – You can catch their scrumptious Vegan food whether you are North or South of the river in Edmonton. We love the cozy hole in the wall on Whyte Ave that is Cafe Mosaics. We love the bright, light filled room that is The Moth. Get the Jackfruit Crab Cake Benny or Moth Spaghetti at The Moth Cafe. Try the Tacos at Mosaics Cafe. (see photos below)

#5 – With 10 locations in Edmonton, the Remedy Cafes are a go-to for Indian comfort food and chai. The chai is owner Sohail “Zee” Zaidi’s own recipe and it has just the right hit of pepper to balance the sweetness and ramp up the spicing. There’s plenty of wraps and vegetarian and vegan dishes to choose from and you get a lot of food for your money. We usually wrap half to take home. Yes, there’s fancier vegetarian places, but few restaurateurs have the ethic of Zee. He believes in and lives Ubuntu – the universal bond that connects all of humanity. We want him to prosper (see lead photo and photos below).
